Studio L2e August Release!

Hey everybody! In my Studio L2E JULY #foxyl2e Challenge post last week on the Studio L2E blog, I shared my mixed media style traveler's notebook layout that I created to document my birthday excursion with my daughter to Six Flags. Today, I thought I would share how I incorporated some of the BRAND NEW Studio L2E August release planner stamp sets into my final layout. Check out my full post on the Studio L2E blog!

Documented Life Project July 18 (Week #29)

Here is this week's DLP art challenge & journal prompt:

Art Challenge:  Photographs & Memories
Journal Prompt: "All that I have to Remember You" - Jim Croce

This morning while on his routine morning walk, my husband, Kevin spotted this yard sale sign and immediately sent me this photo.

Yard Sale Today

There was absolute "NO WAY" I was gonna miss this opportunity! I was the VERY FIRST customer on the scene. There were stamps EVERYWHERE! It was truly "stampers paradise".  I managed to get a floral, splatter, grid & two script mixed media background stamps all for a whopping $12 (they retail for well over $50). WHOO-HOO!

Background Stamps

I could not wait to get home and "test drive" a couple of these bad boys, so I decided to get started on my DLP layout for last week's "photos & memories" challenge. I recently "rediscovered" this photo of Kevin & I from back in the day. Other than our wedding day photos, this pic is my FAVORITE! I thought this week's challenge would be the perfect opportunity to preserve this moment.

July 18 (Week #29)

Here is my mixed media "step out" process:

1. I adhered a piece of inky paper from a previous project to my background with Uhu glue.

2. I added multiple colors of archival ink to the back of one of my yard sale finds and stamped it on the other side of my layout.

3. I adhered my photo to a playing card (my ephemera), glued it with Uhu glue & used black archival ink to stamp one of my homemade stamps around the perimeter to create a focal point. Then, I randomly used my new grid stamp from the yard sale this morning to add another layer of interest around the edges of my layout.

4. I added a partial flower that I also hand carved to the corners of my playing card with Uhu glue & stitched around all of the borders with black thread.

5. Finally, I added additional collage elements from my stash until I was satisfied.

That's it for now. I hope you enjoyed the process and are inspired to use your mixed media stamps in a fun, new way!

Here is this week's DLP art challenge & journal prompt:

Art Challenge:  Focal Point vs. Layering
Journal Prompt: Time Keeps on Ticking

With all of the recent changes in my life with my ministry at church and my family's upcoming move, I have to be intentional about staying focused on the ONE who matters MOST in my life. People ask me all the time how I am able to be so productive and accomplish so much. The truth of the matter is that that if I keep God first, my family second, and everything else behind, then LIFE WORKS. Out of that order, my life will NOT WORK properly.

So, for my DLP challenge this week, I decided to remind myself that no matter what is happening in my life around me, the TRUTH is that: I SERVE AN AUDIENCE OF ONE! GOD is the ONE that I follow & obey. His love for me is eternal & for that I give Him the throne of my heart!

DLP July 11 (Week #28)!

Here is my "step out" art journaling process for this layout:

1. Use Dylusions ink spray & a stencil to create the first layer.

2. Randomly add acrylic paint with a brush stroke method.

3. Use stamps of your choice and archival ink to create the third layer. Stamps shown below are from the "Zip-a-Dee-Doo" stamp set by Bo Bunny.

4. Grab your favorite mixed media stickers and at them to your background. I created these funky repositionable stickers with sprayings & archival ink.

5. Outline your stickers with a black Inktense pencil and follow with an aqua brush for a grungy look.

6. Create a flower focal point with acrylic paint and outline using the method in step #5.

7.  Doodle stitch with black thread around the focal point and edges to finish.

And, VOILA'!
I pray this "step out" process was helpful. Let me know if you have any questions!

   Journal Prompt: Life....with a History

I am super thrilled that the DLP July theme is all about EPHEMERA! There is nothing more inviting than yummy layers of collected & found bits of PAPER. It blows my mind that something that seems so invaluable can actually carry MUCH value if it is marked with impressions from the past. SIMPLY UNBELIEVABLE!

DLP July 4 (Week #27)!

Step Out Process

1.  Spray Dylusions ink sprays on an alpha stencil.

2. Adhere ephemera & other bits with Uhu glue to the background.
3. Outline all of the ephemera with a Signo Uniball Black (Broad) pen & Tombow markers.
4. Add black stitching around the border to finish.

Journal Prompt: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

During the process of packing for our move, I discovered a map of Jamaica that Kevin & I purchased in Ocho Rios on our honeymoon 15 years ago. I decided that this week's DLP challenge would be the perfect opportunity to document our memories. I simply printed images from the internet and labeled them to fulfill the "photos & words" art challenge. I also used stamps from the brand new Paperbag Studios "Dream Thicket" rubber stamp set to create my mixed media backdrop.
